Danish Business Culture – A walk through Danish business history

Explore the origins of Danish business culture up until today

Danish work culture is distinct. Most Danish businesses utilize a flat management system, maintain an informal tone, and encourage individual participation in a cooperative team setting.

On this walking tour, we will explore the origins of Danish business culture through the modern era and give you examples of the historical basis for the cultural aspects of the present-day Danish workplace.  We will examine some of Copenhagen’s well-known sights, but also some of the lesser known, in a fun and engaging walking tour.

We will visit the workplace of our big 19th century thinker, N.F.S. Grundtvig, and hear about the national awakening after the lost war of 1864, and the subsequent emergence of the cooperative movement (andelsbevægelsen). You will hear about our big entrepreneurs like Carl Jacobsen from the Carlsberg Breweries, and how Danish “soft values” often shine through today’s company culture.

We will also touch upon the Danish performance culture that is coupled with the “Jante-law” – e.g. how does one excel in a workplace that stresses a high degree of group work, and group thinking?
