Present-day school in Denmark is heavily influenced by pedagogical currents that occurred when democracy formed in the middle of the 1900th century.

If democracy was to work, people had to be enlightened about the world they lived in and understand and accept other ways of thinking. Also, education should not be seen as only something happening in childhood but should be lifelong. 

In this tour, we will visit sites in Copenhagen that hold importance for the formation of the Danish education system.

We will touch on the principles behind Danish “folkeskole”, and education in Denmark will be given historical context as to why education in Denmark has a greater emphasis on creating a healthy community rather than individual performance.
